About Us

Athens Radiology was formed in 1992. We are honored to provide our expertise to the patients and referring physicians across northeast Georgia at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Athens Diagnostic Center. Our physicians provide expertise in all imaging modalities. All Athens Radiology Associates, PC radiologists are board certified by the American Board of Radiology.

Our Mission and History

The mission of Athens Radiology Associates (ARA) is to provide patient-centered, evidenced-based, and quality care to patients and referring physicians across our multiple locations.

For nearly four decades, our expert physicians have been delivering high-quality imaging services to the Athens area. In 1992, our physicians formed ARA in order to streamline our services and develop the ability to offer subspecialty interpretations across our practice.

What We Do

As one of the region’s largest radiology practices, ARA not only serves Athens, but our physicians also interpret images and offer interventional services to the surrounding area. Although we are large enough to provide dedicated, comprehensive coverage, we remain small enough to deliver the level of personal care our patients and referring providers expect.

We are invested in the community while being committed to delivering specialized as well as personalized services. We offer subspecialty expertise and are experienced in a full range of imaging modalities. All of our physicians are board certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and voluntarily participate in the ABR Maintenance of Certification (MOC).

Always Evolving

In keeping with our mission to provide the most up-to-date, quality-driven care, many of our fellowship-trained radiologists have led their respective sections to achieve national accreditation and certifications such as the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

ARA is proud to have received the highest accreditation possible from the American College of Radiology across multiple modalities. We interpret the largest volume of 3D tomosynthesis breast imaging in the area and are introducing new techniques in minimally invasive interventional oncology and Cardiac MRI.

More Than Clinicians

ARA physicians are devoted to the community we serve and are involved in numerous local, charitable organizations. We participate in multiple professional societies.

Dr. Bill Herrington serves on the national level as Speaker of the American College of Radiology, an executive committee position dedicated to improving, promoting, and protecting the practice of radiology and its core areas of advocacy, economics, education, quality and safety, research, and membership value. With the expansion of medical school education and residency programs into Athens, ARA is also playing a role in teaching the next generation of physicians.

Our Physicians

All of our physicians are board certified by the American Board of Radiology. ALl of ARA’s members are fellowship trained or have developed subspecialty areas of expertise and knowledge. ARA is the only group of radiologists in Northeast Georgia offering subspecialty interpretations. ARA is dedicated to offering a very high level of subspecialty expertise and service to patients and referring physicians.
